What is it used for?

  • Treatment of fungal nail infections.

How does it work?

  • Trosyl nail solution contains the active ingredient tioconazole, which is an antifungal medicine used to treat infections caused by fungi, yeasts and moulds.
  • Tioconazole kills fungi and yeasts by interfering with their cell membranes. It works by stopping fungi from producing a substance called ergosterol, which is an essential component of fungal cell membranes. The disruption in production of ergosterol disrupts the cell membrane.
  • The cell membranes of fungi are vital for their survival. They keep unwanted substances from entering the cells and stop the contents of the cells from leaking out. As tioconazole disrupts the cell membranes, it kills the fungal cells.
  • Trosyl nail solution is used to treat infections of the nails with fungi (dermatophytes), yeasts and moulds. These types of infections are often difficult to eradicate, because the nails are hard and difficult to penetrate and take a long time to grow as new healthy tissue.
  • Trosyl nail solution is applied onto the infected nails like nail varnish. The nail solution forms a slightly greasy film on the nail, which allows the medicine to penetrate through the nail into the nail bed and attack the infection. This nail solution should be used twice a day.
  • It is important that you continue the treatment without interruption until the infected section of nail has completely grown out, otherwise the infection will just come back. In general it can take 6 to 12 months treatment to clear up a nail infections. It is recommended that you see your doctor every three months during the treatment to make sure the medicine is working correctly.
