Why have I been prescribed Predfoam?

Predfoam (Prednisolone) is used to treat ulcerative colitis (inflammation of the bowels) and may be used to treat proctitis (inflammation of the rectum).

How does it work?

Predfoam belongs to a group of medicines called corticosteroids which reduce inflammation.

When and how do I take it?

  • One metered-dose of Predfoam should be inserted rectally, using one of the applicator nozzles provided, once or twice daily for 2 weeks.
  • Your doctor may decide to extend the treatment for a further 2 weeks.
  • See the leaflet that comes with your medicine for detailed instructions on how to use them.

What’s the dose?

Crohn's Disease

  • Usually once or twice a day for two weeks.

Could it interact with other tablets?

Please tell your doctor if you are taking any other medicines including those without a prescription. In particular tell your doctor if you are taking any of the following:

Herbal products should also only be taken after talking with your doctor.

What are the possible risks or side-effects?

Normally, there should be no problems associated with the use of Predfoam. However, if you think that Predfoam is causing you any unusual discomfort or problems, please contact your doctor or pharmacist (chemist).

Can I drink alcohol while taking it?

There are no known interactions between alcohol and Predfoam

Always ask you doctor or pharmacist however as other medications you are taking may have a bearing on this.

What if I’m pregnant/breastfeeding?

You should only take this medicine during pregnancy or while breast feeding if your doctor thinks that you need it.
